Bedok is big residential area located at the east end of Singapore and it is home to many Singaporeans. Plenty of great eateries have opened up here over the years and people are known to travel all the way from the other side of the island to try some of these local delights. Most of the best eateries here are located within the charming food centres or as we all know them, hawker centres. Read on to find out some of the top eateries that I managed to visit when I travelled east.
84 Bedok North Street 4, #01-25/27
It’s tough to find a really good café around, and especially in Bedok where most of the good eateries are located in the hawker centres. However, I did manage to find a classy little establishment located along 74 Bedok North Street 4. The To-Gather Café prides itself on its artisanal coffee and great café bites for a very reasonable price. One of the great things I noticed about this café is that they serve up some very sizeable portions so you actually know that you’re getting value for your money. Most cafes have very small portions for exorbitant prices which do tend to put people off but the To-Gather café doesn’t make that mistake. Some of the dishes I’d definitely recommend would be the Big Breakfast (Scrambled eggs, crisp bacon, potato wedges, chicken sausages, and some side salad) the Mexican Quesadilla (Tortilla wraps filled with chicken, bell peppers and cheese) and most definitely both their matcha and chocolate lava cakes (your typical sinful cakes but they do pack an extra punch in here). Bring your friends and family for brunch over here and you’ll have a gastronomic time.
The Pasta Boutique
539 Bedok North Street 3, #01-619
When someone tells you to find them some great pasta, you might not exactly look to food centres to find it. Well, when I found myself at this food center, I did not expect to find the wonderful Pasta Boutique. This is an eatery specializing in a huge variety of different kinds of pasta. Located alongst 539 Bedok North Street 2, the Pasta Boutique is a great place to bring your friends and family for a nice weekend lunch or dinner. I went with a relatively large group of friends and all of us made an educated decision to each order a different plate of pasta so we could experience more of the items on the menu. Some of the dishes I would recommend you try would be the Creamy Bacon & Mushroom fettuccine, Chilli Crab linguine, and the Salted Egg Prawn Ravioli. The pick of the bunch, for me, would be the Chilli Crab linguine. The sauce was perfectly textured and had a great balance of tanginess and spiciness. A definite must-try when you visit!
Seng Kee Black Chicken Herbal Soup
511 Bedok North Street 3, #01-31/32 Kaki Bukit 511 Market & Food Centre
As I mentioned earlier, most of the great food places here in Bedok are found in the hawker centres and I managed to find a gem as I traversed the various food centres located around the area. Seng Kee Black Chicken Herbal Soup can be found at the Kaki Bukit 511 Food Centre with their unit number being #01-31/32. This humble little food stall serves up some of the best Mee Sua’s I’ve ever had the pleasure of tasting. The key difference comes within the soup of the dish itself and the addition of other ingredients of your choice such as the kidney, liver or lean meat. The soup is thick and concentrated with the taste of the herbs and the aroma itself attracts customers stood a mile away. You can get all of that for a measly 5 dollars. An absolute steal in my opinion. This is a perfect place to come for your late night supper if you’re craving some quality Mee Sua.
