Eats around the island - Orchard Gateway

by • 07/10/2017

Orchard Gateway has been open for about 3 years now but hasn’t really been talked about much by the general public. It’s been overshadowed by malls like ION, 313 Somerset amongst others. There are actually some great food places located within Orchard gateway and I’m going to be talking about some of the best ones in this issue of eats around the island. Read on to find out more!

Noodle Place Restaurant

277 Orchard Road, #01-17 Orchard Gateway

Noodle place restaurant is a great restaurant to start your experience with the Hong Kong cuisine if you haven’t before! I’d have to say that the Hong Kong cuisine is incredible healthy because of the kind of food they offer up. A lot of it is steamed, or boiled which makes it a great option if you’re looking for something light on the calories. They have an extensive menu with different soup bases for the noodles and I’d guarantee that you’ll find something that you will enjoy. As for me, I had the HK style wanton noodles with some shrimp wanton hor fun. The HK style noodles were springy and incredibly tasty. It went very well with the wantons and clear soup. Shrimp wanton has got to be one of my favourite dishes in the Hong Kong cuisine and I got to say it tasted so good here. They have plenty of porridge dishes too which I hadn’t gotten the chance to try yet but will when I make a re-run to this place. A must-try!

Joe & Dough

277 Orchard Road, #01-10 Orchard Gateway

Joe & Dough is located right on the first floor of Orchard Gateway. It is an absolutely fantastic place to bring friends and family for a great breakfast or brunch. They have a great menu ranging from homemade sandwiches, different types of breakfast toasts, cakes, pastries and beverages. They have some tasty local treats like the gula melaka cake and more health conscious dishes like the Granola Yogurt bowl which I actually ended up ordering. It was light, tasty and all in all made up for a great starting breakfast item. Joe & Dough specialize in making great custom coffees that you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else outside. Some examples would be their coconut mocha, d.r Joe 1914 and the raspberry café latte. With plenty of fresh ingredients like herbed chicken, honey baked ham, coral lettuce and mozzarella cheese, their sandwiches are also to die for. Do try the ham, cheese and sundried tomatoes sandwich. My personal recommendation! Their prices are also very affordable so do visit!

277 Orchard Road, #03-17 Orchard Gateway

This one goes out to all the people that can’t get enough of Korean food and BBQ. Daessiksin is located within orchard gateway on the 3rd floor. If you love variety in your Korean bbq spots, this restaurant has to take the cake. I was bamboozled with the amount of meat, vegetables and seafood products that were on show when I got up to get my dinner. The fact that it’s much cheaper than any potential competitors make it all the more appealing for re-runs. I won’t go into detail on what I actually picked out for my dinner because the beauty of this restaurant is your ability to customize what you want to eat. Some of the ala carte items are also worth a shout. Some examples of those would be the Ramyun set which had nice springy yellow noodles with your choice of beef, chicken or pork, eggs and vegetables. I also had their seaweed soup which is a real good palette cleanser especially when you’re having different kinds of meats and vegetables. Give this place a go when you get the chance!
